Varsity Boys Basketball
Coach: Ashley Wojtas
This will be my 9th year coaching Varsity Boys Basketball here at Pentwater Public Schools. Coupled with my passion for sports is education. I have a major in Elementary Education and double minored in Mathematics and Integrated Sciences. I am currently the 4th-grade teacher for Pentwater Public Schools and I teach 3rd grade in a Summer Migrant Program during the summer in Kent City! I have been passionate about basketball and education since I was a young girl thanks to the support of two wonderful parents! I have been blessed to play basketball for the Kent City Basketball program, play for the West Michigan Waves in AAU, and compete at the Collegiate level at Alma College for 4 years. Pentwater is a strong basketball program that is only inspired to dream big and work harder to find success! I look forward to the upcoming season and the strong work ethic of my coaches, parents, and players. Go Falcons!
Varsity Girls Basketball
Coach: Jeff Mcdonough
My Name is Jeff Mcdonough and this will be my fifth year coaching Girls Varsity Basketball at PHS. I grew up in Oskaloosa, Iowa and moved to Michigan in 1988 to play Baseball for Calvin College in Grand Rapids. I have loved sports since I was a small child and have played organized athletics from elementary through college level. Throughout those years I benefited from the time and efforts of many coaches. So, to me, coaching is a way of giving back and helping kids, the same way so many coaches helped me.
I met my wife, Kirstin, a PHS alumni and she introduced me to this awesome little village called Pentwater! We married in 1995, were blessed with two children and then had the opportunity to move to Pentwater in 2003. It was then that I began coaching Pentwater Village rec sports. Following rec coaching, I was hired by Pentwater school to coach Jr. High girls volleyball, Jr. High girls basketball and now girls Varsity basketball. I love helping kids learn, appreciate and have fun with sports. I believe team sports develop and strengthen skills that kids will use throughout their lifetime and feel blessed to play a role in promoting that growth and development.
JV Boys Basketball
Coach: Joe Gorton
This will be my 4th year as the coach of the JV boys basketball program. Basketball has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I grew up playing the game under the tutelage of a very strong basketball program in Shelby. Along with athletics, I am a HS/MS math teacher at Pentwater. This allows me to make connections with my athletes as both their coach and their teacher. I am a firm believer in the idea that the young men I am working with are STUDENT athletes. Knowledge is an integral part of the game, and I try to foster that approach in my teaching and coaching.
When I am not actively participating in or viewing basketball games (or any other sporting event available) I am spending time with my family. My wife of 7 years is a teacher at Shelby Elementary, and I have two children, Oliver & Elliot. Happily, it seems as if my love of the game has translated to them as well, and you will often see them in the stands, cheering on our Falcons.
I can’t wait for the start of the basketball season! Go Falcons!
JV Girls Basketball
Coach: Greg Chye
I have been coaching basketball for about 10 years at various levels. I am excited to continue to coach JV girls here at Pentwater. This will the second year that we have put together a program at this level in many years. I am looking forward to this next season and seeing the growth of my basketball players!
My motivation for coaching is to give back to my community that I live in and support. For me, this means giving what talents I have to encourage and motivate players. I want students to become the best potential student-athlete they can be. Success can be shown through learning, effort, dedication, and improved skill level.
Coach: Andrea Gallie
Cheerleading has always been a passion for me! Raised in a sports-crazy family, cheerleading quickly became my niche. I believe that the courage and poise it takes to stand up in front of a crowd and get them to follow you can be transformative! I know that the courage it takes to lead cheers teaches wonderful life lessons about maintaining a positive attitude, grace, charisma, perseverance, and even rhythm. Stunting also teaches strength of character and body, balance, teamwork, trust, and communication. I started coaching cheerleading when I first began teaching in Pentwater in 2006. I coached junior high for a few years, and then I moved up to Varsity. I’ve been spreading school spirit ever since! I am able to devote to these athletes due to the support of my amazing husband Jim. Cheers!

8th Grade Boy’s Basketball
Coach: Sky Pearson
Pentwater graduate class of 1995. 2 years of JV basketball and 2 years of varsity basketball all played at PHS. I have been coaching basketball for nearly 10 years. The last 5 spent as the jr high coach at Pentwater. The last three as the 8th-grade coach. I also coach select soccer through Alliance Shoreline out of Ludington. I hold a level 6 license for soccer through the NSCAA. I believe hard work will deliver results in any discipline and that our kids only need someone to push them, believe in them, and guide them for their efforts to lead them to success in and out of the competitive arena.
