MDHHS is having a Trunk or Treat event on Thursday, 10/24!

We are making plans for our Red Ribbon Week 2024!

October is National Principal's Month and we are so thankful for our dynamic team of Principal/Superintendent, Craig Barter, and K12 Assistant Principal, Jenna Oleneack! In a smaller district, our admin team wear many hats and we are appreciative of their tireless efforts in leading our district! If you see them this month, remember to thank them!

The Pentwater Cross Country Team traveled to Hesperia for the Baker Woods Invitational. It is a course that many call the toughest in the state! It is beautiful, but really challenging!
For the varsity boys, Tyler Zimmer was our top finisher in 24th place with a time of 21:08.48. Wyatt Roberts was 33rd place in a time of 23:12.52. For the varsity girls, Bailey Case was again in the top 10, placing 8th, with a time of 24:10.39.
For the middle school boys, Chi Jeruzal was the top finisher in 8th place. For the middle school girls, Lauren Macher placed 7th and 6th grader Ayla Kokx was the meet champion for the middle school girls. She earned an “All Baker Woods” shirt! In addition, normally it takes 5 to score a team, but with so few schools they decided to do ghost runners so all teams could score. How this works is that with 17 runners, they added in 18 points for each of the missing runners. Cross country scoring works with the winning team earning the lowest number of points as it is all based on your place. So, with only Ayla and Lauren running, they earned a team runner-up plaque!! Nice work ladies!!
Congratulations to all of the athletes for finishing today! It is a really tough course both mentally and physically! Go Falcons!!

The Pentwater cross country team competed in the final WMD Jamboree of the season in Marion. Out of 14 runners, there were 2 season bests and 5 personal records! The boys varsity team placed 3rd behind MCE and Mesick.
The middle school team kicked us off for the day with some fantastic performances. Skyler Compton placed 2nd in a time of 13:05.92. Chi Jeruzal placed 6th overall with a new PR of 14:18.79. This breaks his PR set last year by 9 seconds. Ben Jorissen also broke his PR from last year with a time of 15:09.01 which earned him 14th place. Jordy Miller earned a huge PR with a time of 15:21.89. He took off a minute and 26 seconds from the time he ran last week.
On the ladies side, Ayla Kokx placed 2nd in a new PR time of 14:50.93. This is 20 seconds faster than her last PR. Lauren Macher placed 7th in a time of 15:47.18.

Amazing job Falcon runners! We are so proud of you and the hard work you have been putting in. Next up is the Hesperia Invitational at Baker Woods. It is a tough course, but so are we! Go Falcons!

Pentwater Esports is back in business this fall. We are now competing in 3 titles each week. The first win of the season went to the Fortnite team of Anthony Acosta and Aiden Henry. They did a fantastic job winning all 3 games of 7 rounds, even with Anthony being at a disadvantage this week due to a forgotten controller. The last game was tight; only 1 round separated us and Houghton Public Schools. I am looking forward to seeing them continue on this season.
We also compete on Tuesdays with Super Smash Brothers. Unfortunately, we lost our first match yesterday due to scheduling conflicts, and we were short a couple of key players.
Thursdays are Mario Kart competition days, and based on a pre-season match last week, our season is looking pretty bright as well.

Congratulations to third grade teacher, Lucy Macher, for receiving the "Stuff the Bus" Distinguished Lakeshore Educator Award sponsored by the United Way of the Lakeshore! Oceana County Director, Barbara Saunders Sims, presented Lucy with her certificate, an $100 Amazon gift card and three large boxes of school supplies for PPS! PPS appreciates the dedication and passion of our teaching staff!

On Friday, 9/27, a guest student, Noellya, sat in on a morning rehearsal with our high school concert band. Noellya is from Martin Public Schools in Martin, Michigan, and was vacationing in Pentwater for the week. Band director, Mr. Rodriguez, had the pleasure of working with Noellya and the Martin Clipper marching band during the summer break as their woodwind technician. Music is an extraordinary way to connect with all artists from other areas. We thank Noellya for visiting and playing with our concert band. Go, Falcons, and Go, Clippers!

The Varsity Cross Country Team had an outstanding morning at the Fruitport Invitational. Competing against 16 challenging teams, the Falcons achieved impressive results, including 2 personal records, 4 season bests, and a medal! The stunning course, paired with perfect weather, created an ideal morning filled with success!
The varsity boys began the meet with an impressive performance, highlighted by Tyler Zimmer, our top finisher, who secured 38th place with a personal best time of 20:41.19. As a freshman, Tyler's dedication and effort are truly paying off! Additionally, Ben Roberson and Michael Smith both achieved their season bests, clocking in at 22:53.64 and 25:36.74, respectively.
Bailey Case showcased her impressive running abilities by securing 12th place and earning a medal. She achieved a season-best time of 22:56.89. Lauren Davis also excelled, recording a personal best with a time of 28:14.50. Abbie Field not only set a new personal record of 32:45.16, but she also built new friendships during the race. It was heartwarming to witness the girls supporting and encouraging each other throughout the event!
Bailey Case deserves special recognition for her outstanding sportsmanship. After the meet, a girl from Fruitport sought out Bailey to express her gratitude for the encouragement she provided during the race. The girl was emotional as she shared how Bailey's support made an impact on her performance. Unfortunately, Bailey was out completing a cool-down mile and missed this heartfelt moment. However, when I relayed the story to her, her reaction was equally moving. Bailey was joyful hearing she had made a difference in someone else's experience and appreciated the kind words. Thank you, Bailey, for embodying positivity and kindness. This truly exemplifies the Falcon way!
Great work team! Next up is our last WMD Conference Jamboree in Marion on Wednesday.

The rain could not stop the Falcons from turning out some awesome races tonight at the Kelder Poured Walls/HOKA 2 Mile Challenge held at Riverside Park in Scottville. In total they earned 5 personal records, 1 season record and 6 medals. This race is unique as the varsity only runs 2 miles instead of the usual 5K (3.15 miles). So, although we don’t count this race for PR’s for the varsity athletes, they all crushed their times from this race last year! For the varsity boys, Tyler Zimmer was our top finisher earning a medal and a 19th place finish with a time of 12:23.23. Ben Roberson also earned a medal for his 28th place finish in a time of 13:38.10. Alden Grondsma took off close to 2 minutes from his time last year! For the varsity girls, Bailey Case continues to show her talents by earning a medal for placing 11th with a time of 13:58.81. Lauren Davis took off just over a minute from her time last year. Abbie Field last ran 2 miles in middle school and her time today beat her PR! For the middle school boys, Skyler Compton led the Falcons with a 6th place finish in a new PR time of 12:46.17. This earned him a medal! Skyler is a 6th grader, 8 of the top 10 finishers were 8th graders! It is really impressive to see him succeed with the older competition! Jordy Miller and Colton Jorissen earned PR’s as well! Colton dropped about a minute and a half from his old PR! Ben Jorissen ran a season best and tied his PR from last year! I know a new PR is coming very soon for him! Ayla Kokx was our top finisher for the middle school girls race. She placed 13th with a time of 15:10.93. Ayla is also a 6th grader and doing very well! Lauren Macher earned a medal for her 21st place finish in a new PR time of 15:35.47. This is about a minute and 20 seconds faster than her old PR! Karoline Slotegraaf also earned a new PR dropping 47 seconds off of her old time! Wow! Perhaps we need more rainy meets! We are so incredibly proud of this group of kids! They performed well in less than ideal conditions, but also kept a great attitude as well! Go Falcons!
